Coloring, therapy dogs, and throwing paint filled balloons at posters. These are a few of the fun activities ASI Student Government and PULSE have planned for this week’s Buck the Stigma Mental Health Awareness Week. The event looks to promote relaxation and eliminate stigmas involving mental health disorders.

Monday was #LoveYourSelfie day with free shirts and stickers for students in the Julian A. McPhee University Union Plaza. Boosting body image was the focus of the day’s events where students were also asked what mental health means to them.

“It’s easy for us to get caught up in the academics of college life,” Secretary of Campus Safety on the Executive Cabinet Kayla Bakhshi said. “It’s important to show Cal Poly is safe and inclusive. If we can improve one student’s mental health that’s enough.”

If you missed Monday’s activities don’t stress—there’s still time to participate in any of the events below:

  • Tuesday, March 7, De-stress Yourself: Come to Dexter Lawn from 1-3pm to meet some friendly therapy dogs, participate in group yoga, throw water balloons full of paint at a brain poster and enjoy a few free snacks.
  • Wednesday, March 8, ‘Stang Support: Get a Henna tattoo and make friendship bracelets representing the colors of Mental Health Awareness in the UU Plaza from 1-3pm.
  • Thursday, March 9, Survive & Thrive: Grab a free burger and embrace your inner child with Play-Doh and coloring at Mott Lawn from 1-3pm.
